The best Windows app you've never heard of gets AI superpowers
Have you ever asked, why can't I just tell the PC what I want it to do? If you're in that camp, there's good news: A new AI update to the Windows Power Automate app may make that future a reality. Microsoft is finally adding Copilot-like capabilities to Power Automate, the "power macro" Windows app that you likely have never used. And one of the best additions will be the ability to literally talk the AI through the process. It's not here yet -- it's part of an early access program -- but this could be an extremely powerful update when it finally arrives.
GPT models are a two-edged sword for automation platforms - SiliconANGLE
The viral awareness and adoption of artificial intelligence foundation models such as OpenAI LP's ChatGPT have created both an opportunity and threat to automation platforms generally and robotic process automation point tools specifically. On the one hand, large language models can reduce complexity and accelerate the adoption of enterprise automation platforms. The flip side is that software robots are designed to improve human productivity through intelligent automation and GPT models could cannibalize some, if not many, use cases initially targeted by RPA vendors. This reality is causing customers to rethink their automation strategies and vendors to evolve their messaging rapidly to position foundation models as an accelerant to their platforms. In this Breaking Analysis, we provide you with a perspective on how foundation models could have an impact on automation platforms. We review Enterprise Technology Research data that quantifies the ascendency of OpenAI.

Microsoft's new Power Platform AI copilot will build your apps for you
At its virtual "Future of Work" event, Microsoft today announced the launch of an AI copilot -- and make no mistake, Microsoft is all-in on using this'copilot' metaphor across all of its products -- to Power Apps, Power Virtual Agents and Power Automate. The idea here is to use AI to make using these tools for building line-of-business apps, flows and bots even easier by letting users use natural language to describe what they want to build. "With Copilot, Microsoft Power Platform is bringing AI-powered assistance into Power Apps, Power Virtual Agents, and Power Automate," Charles Lamanna, Microsoft's corporate VP for its low code application platform, writes in today's announcement. "Makers now have a live in-studio copilot that helps them build solutions and provides suggestions for improvement. To build an app, flow, or bot, you can describe it using natural language and copilot can build it in seconds.
New AI Builder capabilities are now generally available
Today we are excited to announce that two AI builder preview capabilities are now generally available. Features that are generally available are considered production ready. Both new capabilities can be found under the Prediction model card in AI Builder. One of them is prediction of multiple outcomes, and the other is prediction of a numerical field. These new features make the prediction model richer, and be able to solve more business problems for you.
Thanks to AI, you can now create automations in Power Automate by simply describing them
Power Automate, Microsoft's Power Platform service that helps users create workflows between apps, is getting new AI smarts. During its Ignite conference, Microsoft rolled out capabilities powered by OpenAI's Codex, the code-generating machine learning system underpinning GitHub Copilot. Starting today (in public preview), Power Automate users can write what they want to automate in natural language and have Codex generate suggestions to jumpstart the flow creation. It's Microsoft's latest move to more tightly integrate the various technologies from OpenAI, the San Francisco AI startup in which it has invested $1 billion, into its family of products. Two years ago, Microsoft introduced a Power Apps feature that used GPT-3, OpenAI's text-generating system, to create formulas in Power Fx, Power Platform's programming language.

New ways to innovate with AI and Microsoft Power Automate
At Microsoft Ignite 2022, we were pleased to share some exciting innovations for Microsoft Power Automate, empowering makers and pro-coders with new ways to automate and scale enterprise-wide with AI. Be sure to check out our two breakout sessions, "Scale hyperautomation in the cloud with Power Automate" and "Automate your document processes with AI Builder" for a more in-depth look at what's available, including demos. Creating flows is the foundation of Power Automate, and now you can describe what you want to automate in a sentence, and an AI-based copilot will build your flow in seconds. No searching or guesswork, just describe it and let the copilot work its magic. This new way to create flows runs on OpenAI Codex, an AI model descendant of GPT-3 that can translate natural language to code, in this case, Power Automate cloud flows.

How Microsoft plans to improve the low-code landscape
Taking on the challenges head-on that stand in the way of their low-code platforms growing, Microsoft's series of new product announcements this week at Build 2022 gives organizations new options for achieving low-code development goals. Microsoft's series of low-code announcements made this week include Power Pages, the latest Microsoft Power Platform addition for creating integrated, scalable and secure websites. Lured by the promises of democratizing app development with visual, declarative, drag and drop interfaces often bundled with enterprise-wide platforms like Microsoft, Salesforce, ServiceNow and others, enterprises have been quick to jump in and experiment. They're learning that support for a low-code platform can get expensive fast once app development moves from small department coding projects to larger-scale, enterprise-wide apps. Low-code platforms' hidden costs include limited process workflow support that further adds to the challenge of scaling them enterprise-wide.
Robotic process automation becomes a transformation catalyst. Here's what's new - SiliconANGLE
In its early days, robotic process automation emerged from rudimentary screen scraping, macros and workflow automation software. Once a script-heavy and limited tool that was almost exclusively used to perform mundane tasks for individual users, RPA has evolved into an enterprisewide megatrend that puts automation at the center of digital business initiatives. In this Breaking Analysis, we present our quarterly update of the trends in RPA and share the latest survey data from Enterprise Technology Research. The new momentum in RPA is around enterprisewide automation initiatives. Once exclusively focused on back office automation in areas such as finance, RPA has now become an enterprise transformation catalyst for many larger organizations. Initially focused on cost savings in the finance department and other back-office functions, RPA has moved beyond the purview of the chief financial officer.
